Trio Blanket Revealed

Last week I popped in to share with you a sneak peek of one of my designs, but now I can show you the Trio Blanket in all of its glory!!

I made mine with three Scheepjes Whirls* (Green Tea Tipple, Sea Breeze Tease and Minty Black Velvet) shown above. Isn't it cool how the contrast starts out so sharp fades to a washed color in the middle and back to a sharp contrast? I've said before that this yarn is magic. Yep. Magic on your hook!

My friend, Sandra, made her sample out of 3 different shades (Brambleberry, Blackberry Mint Chip, and Sherbet Rainbow).

Would you look at the colorplay here? I love it so much I'm going to photo-blast you...

With the wind blowing through the blanket and the movement created you almost feel like you are there, huh? (Thanks, Sandra, for braving the cold Netherland's wind for these stunning shots!)

I decided to use a simple stitch pattern because I wanted the 3 Whirls to interplay and blend--and I'm pretty pleased with the result. I also decided against a border. I played with the idea a bit, considering some solid matching Scheepjes Whirlette colors...

...but in the end, decided that a border acted too much like a frame and restricted the natural flow of colors.

The Whirlette* is perfect for adding that trim to a garment or blanket, or extending color a bit if needed, but I'll save my lovely Whirlette balls for my next imminent Whirl project. I actually have one other completed project where I used Whirlette for the edging and tassels--watch for its release this summer.

If you haven't had a chance to work with Scheepjes Whirl yet, you really need to give it a try. It's lovely on the hook and hands (60% Cotton/40% Acrylic) and drapes beautifully. As a fingering yarn, I worked this blanket with a 3.5mm hook and love the weight of it--light and breathable, but still adds some warmth. I worked my Caramel Whirl Blanket (free pattern here) with a 4mm hook, and it has a lovely drape, too. Maybe that's why so many people are going delirious making shawls with it.

When I completed my Lightfall Blanket using 3 Whirls, I spent a little time making 3 Whirl combinations that I thought looked lovely together. Here are just a few I came up with that would work beautifully in this blanket, I think.

Just think of the options for how these cakes can melt together--particularly if you consider that you can start from the outside or inside of each cake. This makes this color-crazed lady very excited! If I was a crochet-octopus I would make one of each combination.

Watch for the free pattern to be released next week. I'll announce on my Facebook page here, Instagram feed (@FeltedButton) and here on my blog, of course. You can also stay in the Felted Button "loop" on Pinterest here.

If you're wanting to get some Whirl in your house in preparation--or so you can be with the Whirl"in" crowd, you can find it in the following places, all with international shipping:

Wool Warehouse*
Knotty House*
Deramores*

or pick some up from your local Scheepjes stockists throughout Europe listed here.

I've got another pattern sneak peek coming tomorrow--I'm really excited about it--so stop by again for another little color blast!
