Window to the Whirl Blanket, free crochet pattern Susan Carlson of Felted Button | Colorful Crochet Patterns, interlocking or intermeshing crochet with linen stitch second panel

Window to the Whirl Blanket Reveal

In my part of the world, the crocuses and hyacinths have peeked through the ground, the forsythia is shouting in bright yellow blossoms, and in some southern facing flower beds the daffodils are in bloom! I'm still waiting on the tulips, but it will be soon, very soon. All these flowers spark my dream of opening my own flower shop one day. For now, I'm happy to sit and crochet in the crisp spring air that smells of freshness and sounds of birds getting ready for new birth. Today I even put out my wee table and green chairs--perfect for crocheting outdoors.

Speaking of crochet...remember the yarny peek I showed you last week?  I've since worked out the border and my Window to the Whirl Blanket is officially finished!

I decided on the name because the first panel which is made with the  intermeshing technique makes little 'windows' on both sides of the fabric where you can "peek through" to see the lovely color gradient of the Scheepjes Whirl. It's really got a great stained-glass effect, I think. I used one cake of Whirl in the color Key Lime Pi for the windowed panel and a second cake from the Ombre Collection called Murderous Mint for the other half of the blanket The black is Whirlette in Liquorice and provides a great contrast, methinks. I used 5 balls of that.

Color-obsessed me had to play around a bit with color options for this blanket. Remember, I used one regular Scheepjes Whirl, one ombre collection whirl, and one color of Whirlette. This is one of the most satisfying parts of designing for me, dreaming up color combinations. Get ready for the color explosion...and I only came up with 15!

Was that as fun for you as for me? If you're not quite so color-crazed as me, you might just use the above to help you choose your color combo. You can see all of the colors of Whirl here and Whirlette here. I honestly think all of the Whirls will be fabulous with the Liquorice for that stained-glass effect, but I offered up a few lighter options for those who prefer a less-contrasted look. Seriously, I wish I could make them all just to see what the finished blankets look like.

My blanket pattern will be available next week (fingers crossed). Best part...it will be FREE!!! There will also be a PDF available to make it easy to print.
