Sally Blanket, large colorful triangles in blue, green and yellow with pink stitching and border, crochet pattern by Susan Carlson of Felted Button | Colorful Crochet Patterns

Sally Blanket Ta-Dah

Don't you hate it when life gets in the way of crocheting? With "life" happening lately, I've been a bit absent. And I've missed you, my friends, and hope life has been wonderful for you! I always manage to squeeze in some good yarny time, though, and I've got an exciting new crochet design to share with you today.

Thanks to wonderful name suggestions from you beautiful folks on my Facebook page, the blanket was named...

It reminded me (and a few other folks) of the dress that Sally of Nightmare Before Christmas wears. The name fits. But it also looks a lot like a patchwork bunting or banner, huh? And some suggested it looks like switchbacks on a mountain trail.

I really love the unusual construction of the blanket, too. It's super rhythmic and easy to work up in sections on-the-go. Plus, once you get going, it takes no brain power--the kind of pattern you can work whilst "watching" TV or chatting with family and friends.
I chose Patons Denim-y for my yarn. It is so super soft (mostly cotton with a titch of wool and acrylic) and has a wonderful cozy weight (worsted-4) to the finished blanket. I don't often choose variegated yarns with short color-runs, but this one just really seemed to suit the stitch--it's really like a well-worn pair of jeans.

The joining of the triangles is easy-peasy, too. I like that. And because the triangles are worked in a modified dc (US) tr (UK), it works up very quickly.

I included plenty of pictures to help with the stitches--but you don't need to print them or even use them to complete the pattern as written, just a little extra help for those visual folks like me out there.

Tell me this wouldn't be fabulous in nautical colors--like pennant flags! Even in all neutral with a pop of color for the whipstitch joins and border. I think it could also be made in any weight/fiber yarn and be quite terrific.

~complete materials list including quantities and colors of yarn I used
~special stitches, notes and abbreviations sections
~thoroughly tested and complete written instructions for the full triangles, half triangles, joining and border
~a picture section with 30 captioned photos to help you through

| On the Board | -- The most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home.                                                 ~Harold B. Lee

(Very sad note: My chalkboard does not have a happy place on my porch at my new home as the porch is simply not large enough, nor covered. Sadly, I think I need to find it a new home. But I have decided to continue with my "On the Board" quotes at the end of my posts to spread some cheer, hope and good thoughts. Blessings to you!)

Toodle-oo and hugs to you.
